Rivertop Renewables Named Among Top Companies in Bioeconomy
RANKS #3 IN “40 HOTTEST SMALLER COMPANIES” AND #25 IN “30 HOTTEST COMPANIES IN RENEWABLE CHEMICALS & BIOMATERIALS”
(November 11, 2014) MISSOULA, Mont. — Rivertop Renewables, a Montana-based renewable chemicals company, has been recognized among the top companies in the advanced bioeconomy in the annual rankings by Biofuels Digest, the world’s most widely read biofuels and biobased chemicals daily journal. Rivertop was ranked Number 3 in the 40 Hottest Smaller Companies in the Bioeconomy list, and number 25 (up from number 28 last year) in the 30 Hottest Companies in Renewable Chemicals and Biomaterials.
“It is an honor to be recognized as a top company in the advanced biomaterials industry by industry experts and our peers,” said Mike Knauf, Chief Executive Officer of Rivertop. “I congratulate everyone who made the list and wish us all continued success as we develop the next generation of sustainable products, create new jobs, and invent new sources of value across established industries.”
Rivertop’s capital efficient technology platform converts renewable sugars and alcohols into valuable and versatile sugar acids, such as glucaric acid. The technology allows Rivertop to produce a range of novel chemicals that can compete on price, performance and sustainability. Rivertop is already selling two products from its cost-effective, environmentally safe line of Headwaters® corrosion inhibitors in the road deicing market.
It is commercializing its Riose® detergent builder, an effective and safe replacement for the phosphates that have been outlawed in automatic dishwashing detergents. Rivertop’s technology also presents longer-term opportunities with advanced biodegradable polymers, adhesives, and other functional materials.
Earlier this year, Rivertop announced $26 million in funding from Cargill, First Green Partners and other investors to help accelerate the commercialization of Rivertop’s products. The company has nearly doubled the size of its team since then, readying itself for commercial production.
The rankings, which recognize innovation and achievement in fuels, biobased chemicals and materials by emerging companies, are based 50 percent on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international selectors, and 50 percent on votes from subscribers of The Digest.
The Miami, Fla.-based Biofuels Digest serves more than 1,100,000 readers and followers via the web, newsletters and social media in every UN-recognized country.
