Rivertop Renewables Named on 2016 Global Cleantech 100 Ones to Watch List

Award during record-breaking year for Global Cleantech 100 nominations follows an impressive 2016 for Rivertop Renewables MISSOULA, Mont. (November 16, 2016) — Rivertop Renewables, a Montana-based novel chemicals company, announced that it has been selected as a 2016 Global Cleantech 100 ‘One to Watch.’ The list, produced by Cleantech Group, highlights companies that are catching the eye of leading investors and corporates in the market. The 100 Ones of Watch were selected from a record number of nominations for the Global Cleantech 100 list: 9,900 companies from 77 countries. This award comes on the heels of a successful year at Rivertop. In July, Rivertop announced that the sodium glucarate produced by the company’s breakthrough oxidation technology had been listed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Chemicals Ingredients List (SCIL). Chemicals on the SCIL have been certified by the EPA as safer than traditional chemical ingredients, helping formulators secure the Safer Choice label for end products sold to industry and consumers. 2016 also brought with it Rivertop’s announcement that it had exceeded nameplate capacity at its first commercial production facility less than six months after starting production. “The Global Cleantech 100 program is our annual in-depth research exercise to identify the innovation companies that leading players in the market are most excited by right now,” said Richard Youngman, CEO, CTG. “By the nature of the list, the Ones to Watch truly represent the next cadre of exciting disruptive companies.” “This is a great affirmation of the innovative and exciting work that we do here at Rivertop,” said Rivertop CEO Mike Knauf. “We are commercializing a new class of renewable, high-performance chemicals that are creating new solutions for consumer goods and industrial applications. There is a strong appetite out there for sustainable inputs that can compete on performance and price and this is a testament to exactly that.” Rivertop products are based on a platform technology developed at the University of Montana that generates biodegradable chemicals from plant sugars. Based on sodium glucarate, Waterline® CI is designed to be a high-performing alternative to phosphorous-based corrosion inhibitors in the water treatment industry; and Headwaters® inhibitor is designed for salt brine used to de-ice winter roads while protecting vehicles and highway infrastructure from corrosion; while Riose® is a cost-effective, performance-based, sustainable builder solution for the consumer detergent market.
