Biofuels Digest Names Rivertop Renewables #7 Hottest Small Company in Bioeconomy

(November 3, 2015) MISSOULA, Mont. — Rivertop Renewables, a Montana-based renewable chemicals company, has been recognized among the top companies in the advanced bioeconomy in the annual rankings by Biofuels Digest, the world’s most widely read biofuels and biobased chemicals daily journal. Rivertop was ranked Number 7 in this year’s 40 Hottest Small Companies in the Advanced Bioeconomy for 2015-6 list.

“We’re honored to be recognized, once again, as a top company in the advanced biomaterials industry by industry experts and our peers,” said Mike Knauf, Chief Executive Officer of Rivertop. “2015 was a year of significant growth and success for Rivertop, from our first commercial production, to the launch of new products and the expansion of our already great team, all of which I am sure contributed to our ranking.”

The Hot 40 ranking is the culminating moment during a strong year for Rivertop. Among its achievements in 2015, the company opened their first commercial-scale production facility in Danville, Virginia, where it will manufacture their glucarate-based products. In addition, Rivertop began commercial production of Riose® detergent builder, a cost effective, performance-based, sustainable builder solution for the dishwasher detergent market and adjacent consumer products markets, and launched Waterline™ corrosion inhibitors and chelating agents.

Riose® detergent builder is an effective and safe replacement for the phosphates that have been outlawed in automatic dishwashing detergents. Rivertop’s technology also presents longer-term opportunities with advanced biodegradable polymers, adhesives, and other functional materials.

Waterline™ corrosion inhibitors and chelating agents are a new family of cost effective, high performance and sustainable chemicals designed to be integrated with products in the water treatment industry. These products are high performance, low cost alternatives to phosphate-based options in water treatment formulations.

These technologies allow Rivertop to produce a range of novel chemicals that can compete on price, performance and sustainability. Rivertop is already selling two products from its cost-effective, environmentally safe line of Headwaters® corrosion inhibitors in the road deicing market.

This growth in production and sales has been fueled by significant growth in employees at the company’s headquarters in Missoula, Montana.

The Hot 40 rankings, which recognize innovation and achievement in fuels, biobased chemicals and materials by emerging companies, are based 50 percent on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international selectors, and 50 percent on votes from subscribers of The Digest.
